A trio of armed carjackers, riding on dirt bikes, blasted a Bronx-bound driver multiple times in the head on the Washington Bridge before speeding off in the victim’s car early Wednesday, police said.
Cops responding to a ShotSpotter alert found the wounded victim miraculously standing on the side of the road near the bridge linking Manhattan and the Bronx. He was in critical but stable condition at Lincoln Hospital as police hunted for the suspects who stole the man’s red 2020 Hyundai.
The 45-year-old victim was headed back to his home borough from Manhattan around 12:10 a.m. when the bikers appeared on the bridge and opened fire, with the wounded driver pulling over and running for his life, cops said. One of the bikers then jumped in the abandoned car and sped away, with cops reporting the car owner was shot in the head and face at least four times.
The stolen car was found crashed and abandoned nearby on the Cross Bronx Expressway near University Ave. a short time later, police said. Cops said at least five shell casings were recovered at the scene and police described one of the suspects as a long-haired Hispanic male riding a blue dirt bike.
